Myeongdong Cathedral: Cathedral church of Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The church was originally called Jonghyeon Cathedral during the time of Emperor Gojong of Korea. During the Japanese occupation, it's formal title was lost and was simply called The Catholic Church. After the liberation Korea from colonial rule in 1945, it's formal name was later changed to the Cathedral Church of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception and was colloquially referred to by it's congregants as the Myeongdong Cathedral.
