GIMPO MT. MUNSU 김포 문수산

MUNSUSANSEONG FORTRESS, GIMPO

Munsusanseong Fortress, along with Gapgotjin Fort, was built in 1694 (the 20th year of King Sukjong's reign) to defend the gateway to Ganghwa-do Island.  Munsusan Mountain (376m), where the fortress is located, is the highest mountain in the Gimpo area.  The wall of Munsusanseong Fortress was originally 6,123m long, buta 1,483m-long section has been lost entirely.  It originally had three main gates and four ancillary gates, of which only two main gates and two ancillary gates are left.  Recentrly, the City of Gimpo restored the gate towers of the North and South Gates, along with the 434m section of wall linking the North Gate with the South Gate and the ancillary gate in the south.

This mountain have four course to choose the first one is 3.8km it takes two to two and half hours, second is 4.6km: 3 hours, third is 4.0km around two hours also and the last one is 6.5km it takes five hours.

Guess what we choose?  Of-course the first one, including the break time, it took us three hours all and all.

We're not yet that far, but I can see beautiful scenery already.

The Sites of the Gates of Munsusanseong Fortress 문수산서의 문지

Mususanseong Fortress used to have three main gates and four ancillary gates, but the South Gate was destroyed by French troops during their attact in 1866.  Recently, however, work was carried out to restore parts of the South Gate, including the gate tower, and the North Gate.  The West Gate will be restored after an excavation survey.  Of the four ancillary gates, those in the east and south remain, although the original form of the former in indiscernible, and is only presumed to have been an arch-shaped one like the gate in the south.  Records point to the existence of ancillary gates in the west and north but few traces of them are visible.

Our first break time is over here.  We ate some snacks and drink coffee, which is the highlight of this adventure.  And then after that start walking again to the top.

Our second break time is over here, cute right?  We saw cats family in here, which is weird for me because it's my first time to saw cats in the mountain.

After break continue walking to the top again, I love the view it's relaxing so amazing.

ONLY IN KOREA:  In the middle of the mountain you can see exercise machine, it really amazes me.

COMMAND POST

Located at the highest point of the eastern part of Munsusan Mountain, the command post was used to observe the surrounding area.  An excavation survey carried out in 2009 discovered the foundation stone structure of the command post, along with 210 relics such as roof tile fragments and animal figurines.  In 2017, the command post was restored based on the finding of the excavation survey.

And we are on the top.

It's a unique structure.

Since it's week day there's no people in here just the two of us, although we saw some group of people while going to the top.

We spent twenty to thirty minutes on the top then after that we go down and I saw this group of rocks in the middle, actually I saw this already going to the top I don't want to leave the mountain without doing this so we made our own.  All you have to do is make a tower rocks and when you made it perfectly like this you can make a wish.
